Food Faves and Finds No. 5

My food find for this week was ginormous grapes and strawberries. Seriously MUTANT fruits. Pretty cool.

I have a really big mouth but it could barely accomodate this mammoth strawberry.

This is a bonus "find" for the week. It is the Sport Cami from Gap Body. It has a built in sports bra. LOVE it! And it was only $6.99 on sale!

This is what it looks like on a normal fluffy girl.

I gotta get some pants that don't make my butt look so saggy. That would be SMALLER pants.

Got faves or finds? Let's see 'em.

Food Faves & Finds No. 4

I am a lover of salad dressings. I do NOT eat light or fat free dressings that you buy at the store. I hate them. And if I am going to eat a salad, unfortunately the starring role has got to be the dressing, not the salad. Sorry, salad.

I have tried to come up with some lighter alternatives that I can make myself and enjoy. Most of the time I do not like my creations, but this is a good one.

Creamy Balsamic Vinaigrette

2 T Olive Oil Mayo
2 T Balsamic Vinegar
2 tsp. Worcestershire Sauce
2 tsp. lemon juice
Cavendar's Greek Seasoning to taste

Combine ingredients in individual salad bowl and whisk until creamy. Add lettuce and toss. This is enough for a large salad for one person or two smaller salads. It is very tangy and flavorful so it doesn't take a lot. If you want a Caesar dressing, replace Worcestershire Sauce with 1 T. Dijon mustard.

100 calories!

Now you can link up your food faves and finds for the week! TGIF :)

Food Faves & Finds No. 3

One of my very favorite low-cal, packed with flavor foods is this:

I like to put it on salads, make tuna sandwiches...I have even made quesadillas with this tuna before. I saw a recipe for tuna enchiladas when I was searching for this image, so I'm gonna have to check that out. If you're a tuna fan this is one to try. If you have been on the fence about tuna then you should definitely give the hickory smoked tuna a shot. It's probably loaded with sodium as most things I love are--so watch out there. I also enjoy the lemon pepper flavor.

Now please share something that you ♥!

Food Faves & Finds No.2

A peek into my fridge and pantry...

Gotta have grapes on hand! Asparagus is one of my favorite veggies. I have been known to eat the whole bunch in one sitting...but that's okay! Guilt free.

Just enough fruit. The lemon is for making dressing and cooking fish. I decided to try a tangelo this week--been hearing great things about them. The apple I usually eat with some peanut butter. Banana cut up in a bowl of Total Raisin Bran is my favorite breakfast.

These are the meats I got for this week. The salmon should make 2 or 3 meals for me. No one else in the house will eat it. They have NO idea what they're missing!

Pickled okra--this is an AMAZING snack. Whenever I feel like eating my arm off, I simply have half a jar of PO instead. A much better choice, I think.

Another delightful snack--laughing cow cheese wedges with crackers. If I close my eyes it's almost like I'm eating Easy Cheese (from the can). Almost.

These ingredients+chicken made my Asian lettuce Wraps.

These ingredients made a new family favorite: Tortilla Pizzas. The turkey pepperoni was great!
I've also tried a Barbecue Chicken Pizza with this method--tastes just like CPK!

My new item challenge for this week (to purchase something I've never eaten/prepared before) are these turnips and rutabagas. I will be roasting them with potatoes and onions one night. Hope it goes better than the artichoke from last week! ***Update: Turns out I do NOT like turnips or rutabagas. What are the odds?

Food Faves & Finds No.1

I found this great recipe for Chicken Tortilla Soup at Living by Faith, Hope and Love. It was terrific! I added a can of rinsed and drained black beans. This is a great crock pot meal to have on hand during these final (we hope!) frigid days of winter. And I would guess it's between 150 & 200 calories per cup. Yum!

At my First Place meeting last week we were challenged to visit a new or unfamiliar area of our grocery store this week. There really isn't an area I'm not familiar with (ha!) but there are some items that I have never tried before. I decided that with each trip to the store I would choose something from this category to bring home--just to keep things lively.

This week I attempted to prepare an artichoke. Yes, there is another way besides opening a can. I could kick myself for not taking pictures! Quite a process. Really the only good thing I can say about it is that the vibrant green color would be great on a wall in my house. It was way too much trouble (maybe I did it wrong) and it tasted like dirt. Or worse.

So, that's my contribution for this week. If you have a post related to a food favorite or find that could benefit us all on our weight loss adventures, please link it up below. You can use the button in your post or put it on your sidebar so others can find all the great ideas!

I Had An Idea

I am always on the look out for great healthy food options. I love to read about the meal plans of others to get ideas. And I love to share the foods that I depend on to make it through this thing called weight loss.

I thought it would be fun to have a special day set aside in my little blog world to do just that--share food faves and finds. Each Friday I will try to share something with you and I hope you'll do the same.

Food Faves and Finds might include (but are not limited to):
  • a great recipe
  • product reviews
  • favorite go-to meals
  • exceptional restaurant selections
  • new discoveries
  • awesome substitutions

The possibilities are endless. I think we can all benefit from sharing in the experiences of others, so this should be great...as long as some people participate! Let me know what you think about this idea.

If you are on board, grab a button below and start working on your post for Friday! Be sure to come back here to link up your post.
