Create a Breakthrough

I would venture to say that for most people who are trying to lose weight and get healthy right now, it's not their first rodeo. We've pretty much all been here before and we keep ending up back in the same spot. Overweight, tired, frustrated, and desperate. Why?

Not sure. But I want to challenge you to do something that might help make this the LAST time you find yourself here. I really believe that this is the last time I am going to be here and the difference this time is that I set myself up for a breakthrough early on. After that day, I knew I could do things differently than I ever had before--in all areas of my life.

The way to do this is to set a goal. Probably a physical activity goal but it doesn't have to be. Think of a goal that is totally attainable and something that can be done in the course of a day, week at the most. The quicker you reach this goal the better. Now think about this goal and simply raise it up to the next level. A level you aren't quite sure you can do. This is key!

For example, let's say you are aiming to be able to run a mile by the end of the month. Do it today. Just do it. Or let's say you have been walking a 5K for about a month. Run it today. The whole thing. Your body will do it if you just allow it to happen.

By doing this you are proving to yourself that you can do things you never thought possible. You are creating your own breakthrough. Try it. I did this 3 months ago at the very beginning of my journey and it has made all the difference. You can read about it here.

If you are struggling in your situation and think this could help, leave a comment telling me what you are going to do to create your own breakthrough moment. Something you can do today or tomorrow. I want to encourage you! So if you don't have a blog leave a way for me to contact you.

Remember--we are capable of so much MORE!

this is great...I almost gave up yesterday and am thankful I am still going.

I am going to go to the gym tonight :) That is my goal!

what a great idea. I'm super struggling right now and a challenge might just be what I need - I'll have to come up with something (I'm already running - up to 7 miles now) but I'm struggling with meal planning.
so my challenge: tonight I WILL go grocery shopping and prepare 7 days of meals/snacks so that I'm prepared.

I've been so discouraged this week. I have been very ill, so going to the gym was out of the question. I couldn't even get out of bed. Today, I have re-entered the land of the living and have missed the gym so much (What? People like me don't miss going to the gym!) So, even though I'm barely upright, I'm going tonight. For just one mile if that's all I can do. Because in the past, when something disrupted my journey, I'd just give up. I'm not giving up this time. And that feels amazing.

Your blog makes me feel so normal. Your are right - this isn't my first weight loss rodeo. I have been playing with the idea of running a 5K. I started training last week. Today - I'm going to actually SIGN UP for the 5K I've been thinking about. Very scary......

Keelie, I'm so glad I found your blog!!! I check in with you everyday and you always have something insightful to say.

My goal is to keep pushing. I'm going to push and get to the end of the C25K! I'm also going to reach goal weight because it's something I CAN achieve.

A gain this week was so discouraging but it will not keep me from moving forward. :)

Nike is smart - JUST DO IT! What an excellent Motto. I sat around for months saying.. WHEN I lose weight or IF I lose weight. NOW I AM losing and it rocks! I am done with wishful thinking. If we want it badly enough we can make it happen. It may take some hard hard work, but it can be done. I am living proof. Great thoughts.

I believe that too. I think we sell ourselves short so much of the time and it is amazing to see what we really CAN do compared to what we think we CANT.

This post could not have come at a more perfect time!

I've been mulling over throwing in the towel and saying screw it! I'm close enough to my original weight that it's no big deal! (after 9 months of trying to lose!)

This was the exact kick in the butt and boost of confidence I needed! THANK YOU!

I've got a 5k in a week and half and am not ready for it. I walked a 10k a month ago . . . maybe I can run a 5k . . . it's all mental right? Gonna give it a try tonight!

You are such an inspiration! I made it my goal to bike 26 miles this week on the stationary bike at the rec. Yesterday I went and said I would do 6, and I ended up doing 7.5 in about 40 minutes. I'm definitely going back today, and who knows, maybe I'll see 10?

I love this!
The trainer at the gym set me up to do treadmill/weight intervals and wanted me to run for 2 minutes. I tried. I failed. I mean two minutes and i didn't even finish. I felt so bad. I am taking my son to the school tonight for soccer and I am going to challenge myself to jog once around the track. I'm going to do this! :)

Wow. This is powerful. I needed this right now.

In fact, I'm really moved by this but in a way that I almost cannot express. So, I'll stop rambling and just say thank you

Great, great, great advice. Thank you. This is how it has worked for me. For weeks I have been talking about doing the Couch to 5K training program. Tuesday, I did it. Today, I did it again. Both days I did weights too. I can do it. I will do it. Failing equals signing my death certificate. I won't fail. My life is riding on this. You, my dear Keelie, are a constant source of inspiration. So thank you.

This is not my first weight loss rodeo, but it surely is my last. Right now, my focus and goals are about eating healthy foods in right-sized portions when I'm hungry. So that it becomes second nature, part of me, instinctual, I-don't-even-need-to-think-about-it-easy.

Thanks for the food for thought (pun intended) !!!
