Getting Put-Together

Last night was my First Place 4 Health meeting. I facilitate the meeting and it is definitely one of the highlights of my week. I love the ladies that are in the group and we are just learning SO much together. It is a sweet time of fellowship.

When I was preparing to start leading this group, I read all of the literature they provide for leaders; information on how to be the most effective leader, etc. One of the things they mention is that you should always take time to look nice and put-together for the meetings. This shows the group that you take the program and time together seriously and will help with confidence in leading. Well, I have taken this to heart.

Since I became a stay-at-home mom a little over a year ago, my personal interaction with people over the age of 5 has dropped significantly. The clothes I wear matter not to my kiddos so getting myself put-together hasn't really been a priority. But I have found it to be so much fun each Wednesday afternoon, to pick out what I will wear and actually take a "good shower." You know, the ones where you do the works--wash hair, condition, shave, exfoliate, etc. I fix my hair, put my make-up on and just get myself put-together.

This is how I looked last night.

I have to say, the theory is true. While I think we can all agree, looks are not everything, they are something. Even in my heaviest days, nearly a year ago, getting dressed up and putting effort into looking my best has played a huge role in my progress. It is just part of the whole idea of taking care of me. We take care of the things we value.

Hopefully you are taking care of you, today. If you haven't already--get off the couch, get a "good shower," put on your make-up and get put-together. Even if you are just working around the house or going to the store. You'll be glad you did.

PS--Anybody ever watch Top Model? In that first picture I think I might be "smiling with my eyes." What do you think?

To be honest, you are one of my fave bloggers! Aside from your great weightloss progress, I can't help but admire the way you dress up and you look like this certain Hollywood actress but I can't remember who! :( I'll let you know once I remember. Nonetheless, you totally look great! :D

I read your blog often but think this may be my first time commenting!
I definitely think that's a "smize" in your first photo! :)

I completely agree. Lately for work I have been getting up and showering, and I rush out the door. My hair has been blah, my makeup scarce and it makes a difference on how I feel. You know my weightloss slowed around this rushing time as well and I hadn't really put those two together until just now. Tomorrow I will wake up earlier and try a little harder to be more presentable. Thanks!!!

I couldn't agree more!
I was a tshirt and jeans, hardly any makeup, and hair up in a pony tail EVERYDAY... But that is not the case anymore. I like to get dressed up for no reason and look like I care about my appearance, cause I really do ! I feel better when I'm showered and take time to fix myself up!

You look fabulous ... you have some really great outfits!!! :)

Looking Great!

I'm a dude and I agree that getting cleaned up and dressed up on occasion is good for the morale and gives a boost of confidence!

There are days that I go in a row with just athletic apparel on -- while I like that...I'm sure my wife likes to see me cleaned up too :)

I'm with you; as soon as I get home from work (private housecleaning!)I shower and change, do hair and makeup for running errands or going to the gym! It makes me feel so much better about myself, especially since I've gained back so much weight and am trying to beat it back down again! :)

I learned this in the beginning of my cancer journey..."when you look good you feel good." The effort you make may be for the participants in your group but its also for you. You just feel better when you look good.

Cute outfit.

I bet your group is a lot of fun. And I agree: looks are not everything, but doing some upkeep can really make a gal feel a bit better about herself (or guy!).

Oh I know exactly what you mean! I feel so much better on the days that I put effort into my appearance. Even if I'm sick I'll moisturize and put on some mascara.

Looks are not everything, not even close. Looks are definitely something, you get to decide how much. If you are smiling, getting a rush of joy when you see yourself in pictures or the mirror, then you have decided just right how important it is in my opinion.

Haha! I don't know how I missed this post originally. You look fabulous and I agree, you are completely smizing in the first picture. Tyra would be proud.

You look adorable I love that outfit! You're completely right on this. The days I get ready for work and actually DO myself up I am more productive and feel better about me. The t-shirt and jean days I know I'm still just as good but the spring in my step is much less.
